Diadeloso...¿Qué?

When we moved here I could not stand some of the terms used here in town like the BU holiday of Diadeloso and the street name Bosque. Bosque is Spanish for forest and everyone in town pronounces this word in a very strange way. I am totally accustomed to it now but I used to cringe every time I heard it. Diadeloso = Day of the Bear in Spanish, only with all of the spaces taken out between the words. Why the omission of the spaces? Not sure. Just know that Day of the Bear is a fun day when there are no classes and the student body and faculty at BU come out and have a great time. These terms no longer bother me and we have totally grown to enjoy this BU holiday. 

Jack and I went to Diadeloso with some good friends A & A and Ms. Brandy, and A & C and Ms. Kellie. Sadly, I didn't get any pics of A & C or Ms. Kellie :-(. It was hot but lots of fun for the kiddos. Jack and the other kids played some basketball, football, ran an obstacle course, made bracelets and had a nice BU catered picnic.

Sweet friends holding hands right before we called it a day. We Mommies were pretty tuckered out from the heat, kid managing, hauling around of wagons, strollers and picnic blankets. Lots of fun activity but could not do it everyday! Whew. 

26.5 Weeks

Here is Todd at 26.5 weeks. Pregnancy has not physically affected him much. :-)

Here I am at 26.5 weeks. Luca is moving around a lot and exploring my belly. He tends to be most comfortable on my right side. There are some days that my belly looks distorted because he is so far on the right and my left side feels and looks totally normal. Jack touches my belly and talks to Luca and says goodnight to him before going to bed. When we all sit down to eat dinner Jack points out that our fourth chair is empty and that Luca can sit there when he arrives. :-) Luca won't be able to do that for a while but it is nice that Jack recognizes that our family will have a fourth member and like Jack says, "Then there will be no more chairs left." I interpret that as our family being complete with this little one. 

 

Here is a random picture that I took of the "boys" on Saturday. This is what Mommy likes to see, the guys getting the household chores done.

We went out to the country for Easter. For some reason we didn't get a whole lot of great pictures. I think the weather kept me from really going for it with photos. It was chilly on Saturday and raining on Sunday morning. We had a good time out there anyway. It was good family time and yummy food! On Thursday Jack had a Spring party at school. Here he is working hard on his bird house. He was a little OCD about getting every inch painted. I had to get into the corners and edges for him when he could not reach. I don't mind. I like that he feels like he needs to complete his projects. :-) 

I love to watch him focused on something.

Meet Luca Fox :-)

This is our son Luca Fox. 

I finally made it to a scanner. My boy parts picture did not scan as I suspected it would not. His first name is Luca- simply because we like it. His middle name is Fox because that is Todd's grandmother's maiden name. (On his mom's side) Jack's middle name is Solis, my grandmother's maiden name.(On my mom's side) Since women tend to lose their maiden name when they get married and men get to pass their name along to their kids, we thought this was a nice way to honor the women in our lives. (Moms and grandmothers) We like to think it keeps a since of family and heritage present. 

This is a profile picture of Luca. What a sweet boy! We wonder what his personality will be like and how he will look. Will he look like me? Will he look like Todd? Will he look just like Jack? I am predicting that he looks like Jack and has brown hair and brown eyes. Not too hard of a guess there. But you never know. Both my parents have brown hair and brown eyes but my brother has green eyes. We can't wait to meet you Luca! 

Week 24.5

Sorry for the .5 photos but my calendar marking point falls on a Wednesday and that is usually not a great photo day. Everyone is usually rushing out the door and I am usually wearing very sloppy clothing because that is a work/study from home day for me. So the weekend provides us with a better opportunity to take pictures. 

Things are progressing along here. I feel larger this time around. Maternity clothes that I wore at the end of pregnancy last time seem to fit just fine right now. It is a little scary. I am not sure if my body will "bounce" back like it did last time. I am not sleeping very well these days. I have been dealing with a weird tingling sensation in my left thigh. I had the same issue when I was pregnant with Jack. I find myself trying to sleep in the living room, in a chair with a pillow and blanket at random times of the night. 

We have made little progress in the baby room. We have taken steps in the right direction though. We went out and got Jack's big boy bed today. Well, ordered it. I also was able to get Jack's new bedding pieced together this week. Which has made some sad/yucky feelings come up. I feel a little like we are not getting or doing enough for baby #2. Jack continues to get new clothes, toys, furniture, bedding etc. And baby #2 is getting basically 100% hand me downs. :-( I am totally fine with being economic and practical, but I am feeling a little sad and guilty about it. I feel that it is kind of unfair to baby #2. If we found out that baby #2 was going to be a girl, then let's face it, we would be getting LOTS of new things. So why shouldn't baby #2 that happens to be a boy get the same treatment? I am a little torn. I want to do what is best for the budget but I also want my second boy to be treated just as special as my first. (Perhaps this all stems from me being the second girl in my family.) 

I KNOW, I KNOW. I CAN'T KEEP CALLING HIM BABY #2. I haven't forgotten to post his name. I just want to post a sonogram picture of him along with his name and I can' t seem to get to a scanner (located at school). Will be posted sometime after Tuesday morning. That is the next time I plan on being on campus. 

Fideo, Frijoles and Tortillas

For the most part, I have gotten my appetite back and I have been trying to cook again. I have taken a long hiatus from kitchen duties because of pregnancy aversions. This week I have tried to go back to having a menu for the week and actually cooking the dishes. Last night I made fideo. (If you are unfamiliar, this is that strange, little, yellow box in the pasta section of the grocery store that is labeled in red writing vermecilli. It is extremely inexpensive. Probably one of the reasons why my mother made it.) It was a nice meal that reminded me of home. This was always on the menu at our house growing up. For some it may not be too appealing but for me, this is comfort food. 

Note: I had an aversion to Mexican food when I was pregnant with Jack and with this pregnancy as well. There are a few exceptions to this aversion. I will eat Mexican food that my mother makes, some dishes that I know how to make, cheese enchiladas from Los Asados and nachos from the botana platter at Pepe's. Have I mentioned I miss home. :-( 

A Little Time with Cousins

Last Sunday Sean, Karen, Hattie and Penny stopped by on their way back home from a spring break trip. Todd made hot dogs and burgers on the grill and the kids got a chance to play and visit. It was a short stop over with us but Jack loved every minute of it! He really enjoys playing with these two and he was in tears to see them go.
