Fideo, Frijoles and Tortillas

For the most part, I have gotten my appetite back and I have been trying to cook again. I have taken a long hiatus from kitchen duties because of pregnancy aversions. This week I have tried to go back to having a menu for the week and actually cooking the dishes. Last night I made fideo. (If you are unfamiliar, this is that strange, little, yellow box in the pasta section of the grocery store that is labeled in red writing vermecilli. It is extremely inexpensive. Probably one of the reasons why my mother made it.) It was a nice meal that reminded me of home. This was always on the menu at our house growing up. For some it may not be too appealing but for me, this is comfort food. 

Note: I had an aversion to Mexican food when I was pregnant with Jack and with this pregnancy as well. There are a few exceptions to this aversion. I will eat Mexican food that my mother makes, some dishes that I know how to make, cheese enchiladas from Los Asados and nachos from the botana platter at Pepe's. Have I mentioned I miss home. :-( 

A Little Time with Cousins

Last Sunday Sean, Karen, Hattie and Penny stopped by on their way back home from a spring break trip. Todd made hot dogs and burgers on the grill and the kids got a chance to play and visit. It was a short stop over with us but Jack loved every minute of it! He really enjoys playing with these two and he was in tears to see them go.

Our Irises Are Blooming!

As mentioned in a previous post we moved into our home with our backyard in an awful state. I am pretty sure our house had quite a few previous owners and renters. It was built in 1949 so I can imagine that in the last 60 years our backyard has gone through numerous transformations. We probably inherited it in it's worse state. Sometimes I imagine the original owners and how they might have planted these irises and our pecan trees. I think they might have kept a decent backyard and later witnessed their sweet home and yard turn to crud when it became a rent house. I like to think they would be happy with us living here and content to know that the yard they once tended to is being cared for once again. (Not by me but by Todd) We often talk about moving into a bigger house and at times complain about some of the issues we have with living in an older home. But, I know when the day comes it will be hard to leave these old irises and the back yard that Todd has worked so hard on.. :-)

Week 22 and the Country

We went out to the country house for Spring Break. It was a nice get away. We spent time outside hanging out in some great weather. Jack got to play in the sand box where he discovered a field mouse. He looked for the cows and enjoyed the bluebonnets. During the evening hours we roasted marshmallows. We had a great time. Thanks Mimi and Gramps!

WEEK 22

And here I am with baby in week 22.5. I look a little tired but that is the norm around here. I wake up several times a night and I am beginning to have some back issues. We have made little progress on the baby room but we are working on it. I am searching for the perfect bedding. (Bedding that exists only in my mind and not in the actual stores.) I am feeling much better and seem to be eating a lot and well growing a lot! We have basically decided on a name and I will make a special post to reveal it to those of you who do not know it yet. :-) 

Giraffe Feeder

For some reason Jack was inspired to make a Giraffe feeder. He got a little help from Daddy but was quite successful in directing the project. :-) I guess he saw the iron and ironing board storage device on the back side of a closet door and thought the place where the iron goes looked similar to a tall giraffe feeder. He searched out a "tainer" meaning a container and asked Todd to put grass in it. (They used cut up newspaper.) They placed it up high and made a sign together. Jack is now waiting for the giraffes from Madagascar 2 to come visit him and his feeder. We go to the local zoo a lot so I think he was remembering the feeder there. If you look below at the picture of cousin Hattie, you will see the giraffes and the giraffe feeder behind her. I suspect this was his inspiration. :-) Really enjoying most of Jack's development these days. Just not sure how long we have to keep this feeder up!

Gifts from Ghent and Our Big Boy

Todd went to Ghent, Belgium with the School of Music and was gone for 7 days. Jack and Mommy-O survived. It was a stressful week for everyone involved. Apparently Daddy had to ride a bike a couple of miles with sticks strapped to his back while dressed in work clothes to get around. Hee Hee. Oh how I wish someone had taken a picture of him! I was not able to go to classes because Jack got sick mid week. Jack also decided to turn into a 3 year old on this week and refused to comply with anything I requested. We ended several nights with some arguing and with me walking out of his bedroom without our normal sweet kisses and night, nights. We were so glad for Todd to come home. We need him here. I think from now on if Daddy wants to go anywhere..there may be a three day limit. :-) Daddy brought some goodies for us. (Chocolate for Mommy, Soccer ball and race car for Jack and yes Uncle JES that bottle of Belgian beer is for you!) 

Here is a random picture of Jack at a local park on the big boy slide. While Todd was out of town we had a lot of outings.. park, museum, zoo, basically anything that kept us busy and made the time go by!
